Professional Support That Helps When Your Child Is Struggling

A safe, calm space for young people to make sense of how they are feeling

Watching your child struggle is one of the hardest things a parent can experience. You might be noticing changes in their mood, behaviour, or sleep. They might be withdrawing, snapping, crying without being able to explain why, or simply not being themselves. You are doing everything you can, and it still does not feel like enough.

Sometimes what a teen needs is a space that belongs entirely to them. Somewhere they can speak freely, without worrying about upsetting you, being judged, or getting in trouble. That is what Therapy with me offers.

I work with teenagers across a range of emotional and social difficulties, in person in Leek, Staffordshire and online across the UK.

Signs Your Teen Might Benefit From Support

Young people do not always have the words for what they are going through. Struggling often shows up in behaviour rather than conversation, and it can be easy to miss or misread.

It might be worth seeking support if your teenager:

  • Has become more withdrawn, anxious, or tearful than usual
  • Is finding school increasingly stressful or refusing to go
  • Is struggling with friendships, bullying, or feeling left out
  • Has experienced a significant change, such as a family breakdown, bereavement, or a move
  • Is having frequent meltdowns, outbursts, or emotional crashes, particularly at home
  • Seems to be coping on the outside but tells you, or shows you, that they are not
  • Has low self-esteem or a very harsh inner critic
  • Is showing signs of anxiety, low mood, or overwhelm that are not shifting on their own

Struggling does not mean something has gone seriously wrong. It often simply means a young person needs a little more support than their current environment can provide.

What Teens Bring to Therapy

Teenagers come to Therapy for many different reasons. Some have a specific difficulty they want to talk through. Others are not quite sure what is wrong, they just know that something is.

Common themes include anxiety and worry, low mood, anger and emotional regulation, school stress and exam pressure, friendship difficulties and social anxiety, identity questions, the impact of social media, family changes, loss, and the longer-term effects of difficult or unsettling experiences.

There is no issue too big or too small. If it matters to your child, it matters.

Why Young People Do Not Always Open Up at Home

Many parents are wonderful listeners, and their child still will not talk to them. This is not a reflection of your relationship. It is often because young people do not want to worry you, feel ashamed of what they are feeling, or simply do not have the language to explain what is going on inside.

Teenagers are navigating the complicated work of becoming more independent while still needing a great deal of support. That tension can make communication genuinely difficult, even in close families.

Therapy gives young people a neutral, confidential space where they can speak without consequences, be taken seriously, and begin to make sense of their inner world at their own pace.

Teen therapy and counselling support in Leek Staffordshire for anxiety, school difficulties, emotional struggles and low self-esteem.

How Sessions Work

Sessions are shaped around each individual young person. For teenagers, sessions tend to be more conversational, though always led by what the young person feels comfortable with.

I do not tell young people what to think or how to feel. My role is to create a space where they can begin to understand themselves more clearly, develop healthier ways of coping, and feel more confident navigating the challenges they are facing.

Sessions are available in person in Leek, Staffordshire and online across the UK.

A Note for Parents and Carers

Your involvement matters. While the counselling space belongs to your child, supporting the whole family system is an important part of the work.

Confidentiality is always handled carefully. Your child needs to know they can speak freely, but their safety always comes first, and I will always talk with you if there is a safeguarding concern.

Reaching out for support for your child is not a sign that you have failed. It is one of the most caring things a parent can do.

Fees

Sessions are £70 for weekday daytime appointments and £85 for evenings and weekends.

Not Sure If Therapy Is the Right Next Step For Your Teen?

That is completely understandable. You do not need to have everything figured out to get in touch. A short conversation is often the best way to work out whether Therapy feels right for your child at this time, and what that might look like in practice.

You are already doing something important by looking into this.
